Top Ten Underrated Young Adult Books

The Sassy Book Geek shares her favorite YA books that haven't made it to bestseller status...yet

It's easy to find Young Adult books that are on everyone's bestseller lists, but it's harder to find lesser known books that are equally as good! So I've compiled a list of my top ten favorite YA books that I feel are underrated.

These are not put in any specific order so keep that in mind, all of these books are amazing and I'd love for you to check any of them out! If you want to read more posts like this then be sure to check out my blog for more bookish lists and reviews!

1. The Impostor Queen

A YA Fantasy book that has a brave but flawed heroine, unique magic system and world building, and a VERY attention grabbing plot. If you're tired of the same 'ol, same 'ol when it comes to YA Fantasy then I suggest giving this one a go because it's extremely original.

2. The Darkest Corners

This is a mystery/thriller that actually gets pretty dark at ties especially for YA but in the best way possible. You definitely won't see any of the twists and turns coming!

3. Daughters unto Devils (Harlequin Teen)

I'd say if you like horror definitely check this book out, it's absolutely terrifying! It's about a family living out alone in the middle of the prairie when some....strange things start to happen. Although if you scare easily I would steer clear of this one.

4. Labyrinth Lost (Brooklyn Brujas)

This book is all about Latino witches, I think that's all I need to say right? Not only is this a diverse read but it's also full of wonderful family dynamics, magic, and a world that is very reminiscent of Wonderland but with a little darker twist.

5. Kingdom of Ash and Briars

This is a YA Fantasy that has it's own unique plot along with four fairy tale retellings interwoven throughout as well. You'll see some intereseting twists on Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Mulan and Jane Austen's Emma too!

6. And the Trees Crept In

Another YA horror book but this one has some pschological twists that keep things interesting! What's more creepy than moving trees and an entity known as the Creeper Man?

7. This is Our Story

A really interesting mystery/thriller that is about a group of boys who come back from a hunting trip that resulted in one of their deaths and the boys aren't going to give up which one is the murderer.

8. The Bone Witch

This is an extremely creative fantasy world with some dark, horror twists. As you can probably tell it's about witches and the main character's particular gift for necromancy.

9. Bad Blood

You know what makes an entertaining read? How about mixing some blood witches and Scottish scenery? Definitely a fun and quick read!

10. The Sacred Lies of Minnow Bly

Another very powerful read about a girl who lived 12 years inside a cult and must now come to terms with believing for herself and questioning everything she's been taught.
