Audiobooks That Will Get Your Heart Racing!
I've got some awesome recommendations for audiobooks in the thriller/suspense genre!
1. Chill Factor: A Novel
Narrated by Stephen Lang
I listened to this book several years ago and several times since... yeah it’s that good. It keeps you guessing and tension high. Add the stellar narration by Stephen Lang and you have perfection.
Cleary, North Carolina, is a sleepy mountain town -- the kind of place where criminal activity is usually limited to parking violations. Not so, lately. Four women have disappeared from Cleary over the past two years. And there's always a blue ribbon left near the spot where each of the women was last seen. There are no bodies, no other clues, and no suspicion as to who their abductor might be. And now, another woman has disappeared without a trace.
It is to this backdrop that Lilly Martin returns to close the sale of her mountain cabin, marking the end of her turbulent eight-year marriage to Dutch Burton, Cleary's chief of police. Dutch's reluctance to let her go isn't Lilly's only obstacle. As she's trying to outrun a snowstorm, her car skids on the icy road and strikes a man who emerges from the woods on foot. She recognizes the injured man as Ben Tierney, whom she'd met the previous summer. They're forced to wait out the storm in the cabin, but as the hours of their confinement mount, Lilly begins to wonder if the greatest danger to her safety isn't the blizzard outside, but the mysterious man right beside her.
Is Ben Tierney the feared abductor? Or is he who he claims to be...her rescuer from harm and from the tragedy that haunts her?
2. The Color of Law: A Novel
Narrated by Stephen Hoye
This audiobook has you hoping that Scott Fenney doesn’t cave to almost insurmountable pressure to do the wrong thing. Is his conscience stronger than the need to be accepted by all he’s come to value?
A poor-boy college football hero turned successful partner at a prominent Dallas firm—who long ago checked his conscience at the door—catches a case that forces him to choose between his enviable lifestyle and doing the right thing in this masterful debut legal thriller.
Clark McCall, ne’er-do-well son of Texas millionaire senator and presidential hopeful Mack McCall, puts a major crimp in his father’s election plans when he winds up murdered—apparently by Shawanda Jones, a heroin-addicted hooker—after a tawdry night of booze, drugs, and rough sex.
Scott Fenney, who’s worked his way to being a partner at an elite Dallas law firm, is assigned to provide Shawanda’s pro bono defense after the federal judge on the case hears him deliver an inspiring, altruistic—and completely insincere—speech to the local bar association. Scott plans to farm the case out to an old law school buddy, do-good-attorney Bobby Herrin. But his plans go awry when Shawanda puts her foot down in court and refuses to be passed off to the lawyer she considers the lesser attorney.
As the case unfolds, pressure is exerted on Scott to deter him from being too aggressive in his defense of Shawanda. That pressure becomes palpable as Scott is slowly stripped of the things he’s come to care for most. Will he do the right thing—at a terrible cost—or the easy thing and keep his hard-earned fabulous life?
3. No Country for Old Men
Narrated by Tom Stechschulte
Yes, you’ve probably seen the movie, which is excellent, but do yourself a great favor and get the audiobook which is even more chilling than the movie..shivers!
Llewelyn Moss, hunting antelope near the Rio Grande, instead finds men shot dead, a load of heroin, and more than $2 million in cash. Packing the money out, he knows, will change everything. But only after two more men are murdered does a victim’s burning car lead Sheriff Bell to the carnage out in the desert, and he soon realizes how desperately Moss and his young wife need protection. One party in the failed transaction hires an ex–Special Forces officer to defend his interests against a mesmerizing freelancer, while on either side are men accustomed to spectacular violence and mayhem. The pursuit stretches up and down and across the border, each participant seemingly determined to answer what one asks another: how does a man decide in what order to abandon his life?
A harrowing story of a war that society is waging on itself, and an enduring meditation on the ties of love and blood and duty that inform lives and shape destinies.
4. Sweet Dreams
Narrated by Emma Taylor
I love, love this story, Lauren restarts her life after divorcing her philandering husband and my heart breaks for the way Tatum inadvertently wounds Lauren with his words when he thinks she not listening. This one is romance and suspense. This audiobook will melt your listening device, it's sexually explicit. One final note, Tatum redeems himself admirably.
Lauren Grahame is looking to reinvent herself. After leaving her cheating husband, Lauren moves to Carnal, Colorado, and gets a job as a waitress in a biker bar called Bubba's. It's a nothing job in a nowhere joint . . . until Tatum Jackson walks in. Lauren has never seen a man with such good looks, muscles, and attitude. 5. Into the Light
Narrated by Kevin T Collins & Erin deWard
Last but definitely not least, is Into The Light -- this is an intense one. If you have any triggers you may one to skip this one, as it deals with kidnapping and spousal abuse. But what a story! I had no idea where it was going until the very end. It’s a thriller, no doubt about it!
