Seeing Great Birds in Your Own Backyard
Anyone can do it
For more than 20 years, I have been studying the behavioural ecology of birds. In my quest to describe the unique habits of hundreds of bird species, I have traveled the world and have had the great fortune of having seen more than 2,000 species. Ranging from the smallest of hummingbirds to the largest of hawks, I never cease to be amazed by the diversity of color, song, and behavior that these wonderful little dinosaurs display. However, I still love to watch the birds in my backyard, and have learned just as much from my back porch as I have in the jungles of Peru. For the past 10 years I have helped introduce people to the wonders of bird watching, often just in their own neighborhood. To reach a broader audience, I have curated a list of items that I deem the basic toolkit for anyone interested in learning more about birds. With just a few items, you too can soon enjoy the birds in your backyard!
